Local backup explained

Local backup explained

In this guide we will look at how to create a local backup, you may want these for issues regarding compliance or faster restores.

Local backups can be stored in a few ways

  1. A separate folder on the machines hard disk, this is useful if you need your files backed up against deletion, however it will not protect you from a hardware / disk failure.+
  2. A secure partition machines hard disk, this is useful if you need your files backed up against deletion, however it will not protect you from a hardware / disk failure.+
  3. An external hard drive, data is stored on an external drive this is a good solution as it gives you another layer of protection and fast restores,  the external drive can also be removed and stored in another location.
  4. An external hard drive with a secure partition.  This allows you to have addition security to protect your data.
  5. An NFS (network share)  If you have a NAS in your lactation (Qnap, Synology, Western Digital, Baffalo Terrastation etc) you can setup an NFS share to save your backups to, this is a good solution as a NAS systems often but not always offer disk redundancy giving you another layer of protection.
